Managing Side Effects

Some people think of managing chemo side effects as their main job during chemotherapy (chemo). Doing all that you can to prevent and reduce chemo side effects–especially serious ones–is important but not always in your control. Keep this in mind as you and your doctor discuss your chemo plan and review your treatment goals.

For now, you can take action to help get the most out of chemo.

Here's how:

• Speak with your doctor about the types of chemo side effects you may experience.
• Work with your doctor and care team to learn how to manage chemo side effects.
• Keep your doctor and care team up to date about other chemo side effects (ie, nausea, fatigue, hair loss, mouth sores).
• Take notes on how you are feeling so you can accurately describe any chemo side effects to your doctor and care team. Alert your doctor and care team as soon as possible if you experience a fever, chills, or other signs of infection.
