Tracking Your Test Results
During a suspected diagnosis and evaluation of cancer, you will undergo
a number of tests to determine the type of cancer; the extent of spread
or stage of the cancer; and how well the organ systems within your body,
such as the liver, kidneys, and bone marrow, are functioning.
The results of these tests can determine your course of action, which can
affect the success of your chemotherapy treatment. Your doctor will perform
most of these tests before you start cancer treatment, and then follow
the results closely throughout your treatment to ensure you're getting
the most appropriate cancer care.
There are a number of tests your doctor may use to diagnose and evaluate
your cancer. Find out more about these
diagnostic tests.
This section provides you and your caregivers with a resource focused on
your laboratory tests and a location to track and store selected test results
performed over the course of your cancer treatment.
Throughout your treatment, your health care
team may monitor your complete blood count (CBC)
as well as tumor
markers that measure substances in the body
that may indicate cancer.
To stay on top of your treatment and understand
how blood count is monitored, learn more about
your CBC,
or complete blood count.

Store Your Test Results
Keep a journal to record key tests such as your complete
blood count. Bring it with you to your appointments and
be sure to talk openly with your health care team about
what your specific results mean. As with all your personal
medical information, your lab and test results are confidential
and only for you and the members of your health care
team; laws limit the unauthorized use and release of
personal health information. Use your Tools
for Organizing Your Cancer Information.
